History
1971 - Bill began working as a laborer setting spikes for Burlington Northern. He was one of sixty men who worked on a steel gang in Niobe, ND.
1972 - Bill became an assistant locomotive crane operator picking up scrap metal behind steel gangs. He was also given the opportunity to operate the on-track mower, and perform track inspections.
1976 - Bill now performs duties on BN’s Tie gangs and surfacing gangs as an equipment operator. Within four to five years BN promotes him to a foreman position.
1981 - By this time, Bill has now operated most of the equipment that BN has. He is one of the first to operate BN’s first ribbon rail pick up train. He also operates the locomotive crane, and has worked as a section foreman.
1988 - R & R Contracting, Inc. is established in July as a son/father venture. When asked why he wanted to start R & R, Bill said, “I saw all these contractors charging extremely high prices and I knew that I could offer a better service at a reduced rate.”
1990 - R & R grows at such an incredible rate Bill finally resigns his position at BNSF.
1993 - R & R enters into a joint venture with a contractor in Chile to perform maintenance on the EFE Railroad in Santiago. This working relationship was maintained until Rail America bought out EFE Railroad five years later.
1994 - Bill opens a subsidiary of R & R in Texas called Western Railway LLC.
1995 - R & R is awarded the “Zero OSHA” award from Amoco (BP).

1997 - R & R is once again awarded with the “Zero OSHA” award. Also, R & R begins performing rail pick-up services for Canadian National Railway in Canada.
2001 - R & R hires Ron Lindborg to be its chief engineer and designer, thereby solidifying the company’s ability to perform all necessary railroad contracting duties in house.
2003 - R & R is contracted to do rail pick-up for BNSF and Canadian Pacific.
2007 - R & R purchased Smith Railway Services in Brookhaven, MS, leading to a new business expansion in Louisiana, giving R & R a strong foothold in the south, and Gulf Coast regions.
